What drew you to enroll in Cornell's engineering management program?
I entered the program as an early admit. This option was appealing to me because I was able to finish my last undergraduate course while taking four other courses to start my graduate degree. I was also drawn to the program because I heard from several alumni about their experiences and career paths. I am confident that the engineering management program will help me get to where I want to be in my career.
How does your undergrad major relate to your current work in engineering management?
I am interested in construction management, so my background in civil engineering (at Cornell) allows me to understand the technical aspects of construction and engineering. My current work is focused on the managerial side, with special attention to decision analysis and decision making. I am also taking a class on the real estate development process in order to gain a better understanding of the key stakeholders in my industry and the full lifecycle of a construction project.
What is the research project you are working on?
My M.Eng research group is working on a feasibility study of an electric microgrid serving Ithaca's South Energy District (SED). We have researched the technology and finances and are working on a model of the microgrid.
What are your plans for the future, post-graduation?
I will be working for Clark Construction in the Washington DC area as an engineer.
What is the best part about the engineering management program at Cornell?
For me, the best part of the program is the wide range of courses you can take to fulfill the degree requirements. There are many different concentrations to choose from based on your academic and career interests.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like spending time with friends and family, working on my photography, watching fantasy/science fiction shows, and watching hockey games.
